Dragon Commences

July 3, 2013

Dragon FrontI have successfully attached the base fabric to the body of my apron dress.  Only some minor adjustment was needed at the end and I’m pretty happy with the way it has worked out so far.  Went outside to lay it on the grass since it was a little dim in the house.

Now that that’s done, I gave a rough cut-out to the overlay pieces on the Heat-n-Bond and tomorrow will iron them onto the appropriately colored fabrics.

Dragon BackThen, more cutting and more ironing – but these smaller bits will be easier to manage since the main body is on.

Then, the stitching.  Yes, I’m going to hand-stitch around the edges of the pieces to finish it.  Machine applique just wouldn’t look right on a piece like this and I think the satin stitch of the machine would make the whole thing too stiff in the end.  Since this is all the 3.5 oz. linen, I still want it to have some drape.
