Scroll 11

March 11, 2013

I did a scroll last week for the It’s All Fun and Games event in Rimsholt.  The Sapphire is an award given to individuals who show grace and courtesy in their interactions with others, regardless of rank or status.  The gentleman who received this award has a persona as a poor beggar, but he is also one of the most well-known and treasured members of the local SCA community.

Fun and Games Sapphire 13For this scroll I went with some figures from the Manesse Codex again, using the lady at the top of the image and changing what was originally a circlet of flowers into the sapphire gem that is the symbol of the award.  I also found on another page a figure of a crawling or kneeling man, something for which the recipient is known, and dressed him in brown, which the recipient typically wears.

The award recipient was very pleased with the scroll and came to thank me personally at the event!  It’s always nice to get a thank you for the work, which unfortunately is rare in the scribal world.  He even said he was going to frame this piece for sure!
